LED Fluorescents For School Systems

Flourescent tubes are known to emit mercury when broken and young students are known to break fluorescent tubes for fun.  Cleanup of the hazordous material poses a challenge for our Nation's school systems. LED Fluorescent Tube Replacements can save money on the electric bill, but they also remove the source of the mercury all together.  Umpqua Energy, Inc. supplies school systems with LED Fluorescent Replacement Lamps to retrofit the school's current lighting.  Effeciencies of each bulb are greater than fluorescents and only use 18 watts of power as opposed to 40 watts of power for fluorescent technology.  Over time, there will be big savings for the school in terms of energy efficiency but also in terms of maintenance costs and the absence of hazardous materials from fluorescent tube technology.

  1. Remove power from fixture
  2. Disconnect power leads from ballast
  3. Disconnect Red leads from ballast to socket
  4. Disconnect Blue leads from ballast to socket
  5. Remove ballast from fixture
  6. *Connect Both Red wires together with Line L (Hot) Lead
  7. *Connect both Blue wires together with the N (Neutral) Lead
  8. Install LED Lamp
  9. Re-energize fixture

* Note: Only one lead required to be connected to the power source.  If only one lead is connected to the power source, the remaining lead must be insulated from ground or totally removed.
